History

Very Reverend Philip Ruh, O.M.I. (Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate) designed and led the construction of the Immaculate Conception Church and Grotto, in Cooks Creek, Manitoba.
- The construction of the Church started in 1930 and was completed in 1952.
- The church was built from bricks in a cruciform plan (shape of cross), measuring 140 feet long, 100 feet wide and 110 feet high with nine domes. Seating capacity is 434.
- The church was designated a Manitoba Provincial Heritage Site in 1986 and a National Historic Site in 1997.
- In 1954, the construction of the Grotto, a replica of the Lady of Lourdes Grotto in France, began.
- Following the death of Father Ruh in 1962, the St. Josaphat Knights of Columbus Council facilitated the completion of the Grotto by 1970.
